The Yankees have seemingly hit bottom, dropping their first series out of the All-Star break to a Rockies team that is on course for a 100-loss season.

The series finale was one of the team’s ugliest losses of the season, as a 3-1 lead turned into a 5-3 deficit in the bottom of the eighth after Clay Holmes surrendered his first home run of the season, a go-ahead grand slam that put Colorado up 5-3.

Still, the Yanks fought back to tie it in the ninth, then took a 7-5 lead in the 11th, only to give it away on the first batter of the bottom half of the inning, as Nick Ramirez served up a game-tying home run, and Colorado walked it off later in the frame.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, it was the first time in Yankees history where they had multiple leads of two runs or more in the eighth inning or later, and went on to lose the game.

It was awful timing for New York’s typically lockdown bullpen to implode, and it came against a team that had seemingly tried to give the Yankees the win at every turn. Instead, the Bombers were forced to cope with another disastrous loss.
