Yankees marvel at Aaron Judge after game-tying home run: 'Best player in the world'

With the Yankees on the cusp of defeat against the upstart Orioles, Aaron Judge took Felix Bautista deep in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at five apiece, sending the Bombers on their way to a dramatic 6-5 win in 10 innings.

Judge now has 14 home runs on the season, even with a 10-day IL stint sprinkled in, and holds a 1.052 OPS as he continues his impressive follow-up towards his historic 62-home run campaign last season.

Given how Judge has looked at the plate over the last two seasons, and for the better part of his career, the Yankees are ready to crown him the best in the business.

“He's the best player in the world,” said Anthony Volpe, who was the Yankees’ next hero with a walk-off sac fly. “I'd take him over anyone, any day.”

Judge told reporters he didn’t think his game-tying blast to left field was gone, as he was expecting a fastball but managed to keep his hands back on the hanging splitter, but it still easily left the park. Those in the dugout were wiser, knowing it was gone off the bat.

Such is life for the best hitter on earth.

“You know it right away, it's gone you just kind of look over and shake your head...like he's done it again,” Aaron Boone said. “It’s remarkable. He’s the best player in the world right now and he continues to show you why all the time.”
