C-Mac: Yankees need to pull Domingo German from starting rotation

Domingo German was roughed up again on Tuesday night, allowing six runs over six innings thanks to three home runs, moving his ERA to 7.12 over his last seven starts, even with a perfect game sandwiched in between.

Despite those periodic flashes of brilliance, C-Mac says German can no longer be trusted in the Yankee rotation.

“He is the guy out of this rotation when Nestor Cortes comes back, and he can’t come back fast enough,” C-Mac said. “Unless [Luis] Severino goes back into the tank, it’s German, because it’s always up and down. Even when he has good stuff.”

Severino was battling a similarly brutal stretch, but he has looked much stronger of late, and has a much more accomplished resume. Sure, German flashes good stuff during his starts, but his tendency to get burned at the worst time is enough to boot him from the rotation when Cortes is back.

“He hangs pitches at the worst times…he had Pete Alonso 0-2, hung a slider that he was lucky to get back, then hangs a changeup for a three-run home run,” C-Mac said. “Sometimes, it doesn’t matter how many guys you strike out, if in the biggest moments, you make your worst pitches of the evening. German does that constantly.”
