As free agency nears, all eyes will be on Aaron Judge and whether he agrees to return to the Yankees, and whether the Bombers will make a competitive offer to keep their homegrown superstar in the Bronx.

But according to SNY’s Andy Martino, the Yankees have “no idea” if Judge wants to return to New York, despite the team publicly stating its desire to sign Judge to a longterm deal.

Per Martino, Judge’s intentions and desires are “just as mysterious” to the organization as they are to the fans, putting the Yanks in the dark as the time approaches to begin negotiations.

The Yankees of course could have avoided this scenario by making a more competitive offer to Judge before the season, more competitive than the one Judge turned down in a wise move after finishing the season with an American League record 62 home runs.

Judge reportedly was frustrated with the team going public with the details of its preseason offer to Judge, so relationships could be strained, but bringing Judge back wouldn’t be the first time a face of the franchise re-signed after damaged relationships between the player and front office (see: Derek Jeter).
