On Tuesday, Sal played Yankees GM to break down how he would approach the offseason for the Bombers, which could be a critical one if the team continues to falter and is bounced early from the playoffs.
On Wednesday, it was Jerry’s turn to be Brian Cashman, and he had some interesting ideas for what direction the team can go, starting with the skipper if Aaron Boone is fired.
“Depending upon how the rest of the season goes, I’m not one of those guys who thinks Aaron Boone is terrible,” Jerry said. “I don’t think he’s a great manager by any stretch, but if I wasn’t keeping Boone, and you’ll think I’m nuts…I would look to bring in a guy like Ozzie Guillen.”
What about Aaron Judge? Jerry would prioritize bringing him back, but still sees Judge signing with the Giants as a very real possibility.
“If I assume Judge is gone, I will look for, if he opts out, which I think he likely would, Nolan Arenado, which I think gives you tremendous flexibility in the infield and can replace some of Judge’s numbers,” Jerry said.
“I would try and bring Judge back, I just don’t know that Judge is coming back. If Judge comes back, I’m not paying Nolan Arenado.”
Then, when it comes to shoring up the starting rotation, Jerry would look at some current NL East arms, including the best pitcher on the planet.
“I would look to improve, an Aaron Nola is a free agent, Jacob deGrom is a free agent, Noah Syndergaard is a free agent,” Jerry said. “You have to improve your starting pitching.”
