Sal: Yankees have to call up Oswald Peraza to take at-bats from DJ LeMahieu

Sal Licata has seen enough from some of the Yankees’ struggling veterans, and says it’s time for Oswald Peraza to get the call as he continues to post an OPS north of .900 in Triple-A.

“They gotta call up Peraza and erase one of the two problems they have at third base, either LeMahieu or Donaldson,” Sal said.

“I’m not saying you have to give up on them the rest of the season, but right now, it’s not happening for them. How long do you let this sink before making a change?”

Mainly, Sal says LeMahieu should be the one who loses the bulk of his playing time, as he has looked dreadful over his last 28 games, batting just .181. Given his injuries in recent years, Sal says LeMahieu may just need to be a bench player moving forward.

“Roll with Volpe at short, and you move Peraza to third,” Sal said. “You keep Gleyber at second, and you have Donaldson available as a DH, and with LeMahieu, I don’t know what you do. Maybe you have him off the bench and give him some spot starts here and there. What is LeMahieu providing for this team?”
