The hits just keep coming for the Yankees.
While Joey Gallo returned from the COVID IL, Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10-day IL with a right calf strain, which he suffered in Tuesday night’s game on a swing and miss before being taken out of the game.
Stanton underwent an MRI Wednesday morning, which revealed the strain.
The news came just an hour after Jonathan Loaisiga was placed on the IL with a shoulder issue, and a day after Aroldis Chapman was placed on the IL with Achilles tendinitis. Chad Green was also lost for the year this past weekend due to Tommy John surgery.
The loss of Stanton leaves a big hole in the middle of the Yankees order, as the slugger, who had managed to stay healthy since the start of last season, hit 11 home runs and was posting a 148 wRC+, his highest since his MVP season in 2017.
