Prior to Friday's doubleheader in Baltimore, the Yankees placed infielder Gio Urshela on the 10-day injured list because of the bone spur in his right elbow, and also placed RHP Jonathan Loaisiga on the IL for what the team termed "a medical condition that prevents him from playing and necessitates placement on the injured list."
To replace them on the roster, the team recalled RHP Miguel Yajure and infielder/outfielder Miguel Andujar from the Alternate Site.
This announcement was made just after reports surfaced that the team had brought RHP Clarke Schmidt, their No. 2 prospect, to Baltimore with them as part of their taxi squad.
Urshela missed a Yankees doubleheader last week after being diagnosed with that bone spur, but he carried a four-game hitting streak into Friday and is hitting .272 with six home runs this year overall.
Loaisiga has a 3.18 ERA in 17 innings this year and last pitched on Tuesday, tossing the seventh inning in a 5-3 win over the Rays. The terminology of the Yankees' release, however, also brings speculation of either exposure to, or infection with, COVID-19.
Andujar has struggled in multiple stints with the Yankees this year, hitting .129 in 12 games, but appears poised to be the team's third baseman for at least the next 10 days.
Yajure made his MLB debut for the Yankees on Tuesday, throwing three scoreless innings in a loss to the Rays, before being optioned to Scranton when Zack Britton was activated on Wednesday.
