During Wednesday night’s broadcast of the Yankees/Pirates game on MLB Network, analyst Harold Reynolds opened plenty of eyes when he said that back in spring training, the Yankees and Angels had a trade in place that would have sent Aaron Judge across the country.

“Aaron Judge was going to the Angels in spring training,” Reynolds said. “That deal was basically done.

“I don’t know who, I just know the deal was done. I’m telling you. That was a conversation I heard. I could be wrong, but I don’t think I am.”

Yankees team president Randy Levine issued a statement to WFAN in response to that report, which was relayed by BT on the Tiki and Tierney show on Friday morning.

“The New York Yankees called Harold Reynolds after his comments regarding Aaron Judge,” Levine said. “His statement regarding any trade conversations was completely untrue. The Yankees also called the president of the Angels, and the angels have also reached out to Harold. There is no truth to his claims.

“It also would have been responsible if Harold would have called the Yankees to verify his reporting before making such unfounded claims.”

The Yankees offered Judge a contract extension before the season, which Judge declined, a move that looks like the right one now, as he nears the American League home run record.
