The Yankees have the best record in baseball, just manhandled the sorry Cubs over the weekend, and hold an eight-game lead in an AL East division composed of four playoff teams.
But Boomer won’t be sold on how good the Yanks are until they come out of their rough 13-game stretch that begins Tuesday night.
Over the next two weeks, the Yankees will battle the Rays, Blue Jays, and Astros, with six of those games coming on the road. The Yanks have played a total of 22 games against teams above .500 this season (and hold a record of 15-7), and will log more than half of that season total in the next 13 games.
“We’ll find out just how good the Yankees are,” Boomer said during Tuesday’s show.
“This is a 13-game stretch now. You tell me you go 8-5…OK, you’ve got something.”
The quest begins Tuesday with Gerrit Cole on the mound.
