Yankees reach low point not seen by franchise in decades

The Yankees hit a new low on Wednesday night, reaching a point the franchise hasn’t seen in decades.

Another lifeless offensive effort led to a second straight shutout at the hands of the Braves, extending the Bombers’ losing streak to five games, while dropping their record to one game below .500 at 60-61.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, the Yankees wake up Thursday with a sub-.500 record, marking the latest point of a season that they have been below the .500 mark since 1995, when the Yanks were below the mark on Sept. 5.

The Yankees turned things around that season and made the playoffs as the first-ever Wild Card, and served as a prelude to the last dynasty in baseball.

This team doesn’t seem to have the groundwork for that kind of run, as they have been a widely mediocre team since the second half of last year. Their last two months have been even worse, as Stathead’s Katie Sharp reports that the Yanks’ record of 24-36 over the last 60 games is the worst 60-game stretch they have endured in one season since 1992, when they last posted a losing season.

If the Yankees don’t drastically turn things around, 2023 is shaping up to end their streak of winning seasons.
