The Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders announced Sunday that the Yankees have released catcher Robinson Chirinos, infielder Derek Dietrich, and RHP Nick Goody from their minor-league deals.
Dietrich, 31, played 36 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, slashing .215/.413/.393 with five home runs, 22 RBI, and 27 walks.
He played first, second, and third bases while in Scranton, and it was reported earlier in the weekend by multiple sources that he had opted out of his deal.
Dietrich spent 2020 with the Rangers, hitting .179 in 25 games, and hit .187 with 19 homers in 113 games with the Reds in 2019.
Chirinos, 37, had split 2020 between the Rangers and Mets, hitting .162 in 26 games in the shortened season. He signed a minor-league deal but suffered a wrist fracture in spring training, and between that and a stint on the inactive list during Olympic qualifiers, he played just 13 games for the RailRiders and hit .276 with three home runs.
Goody, 29, was 4-1 with a 2.86 ERA and one save in 17 games, with 31 strikeouts in 22 innings. Originally a sixth-round pick of the Yankees in 2012, the righty pitched 11 innings for the Rangers last season, and has 158 MLB appearances over parts of six seasons with the Yankees, Indians, and Rangers.
