The Yankees released their 26-man roster for Tuesday night’s Wild Card Game against the Red Sox, and Gio Urshela is among the group after a scary collision into the Rays dugout after making a spectacular running catch in Sunday’s regular season finale.
Urshela and Andrew Velazquez are two potential shortstops on the roster, while Gleyber Torres, Anthony Rizzo and Rougned Odor round out the infielders (Tyler Wade has played both infield and outfield this season). Gary Sanchez, Kyle Higashioka and Rob Brantly are the three catchers that will be active on Tuesday night.
Greg Allen makes the roster as one of the team’s outfielders, and the Yanks will look to carry as much speed as possible on the bench if a pinch runner is needed. Allen last played in the majors on Aug. 3 and stepped in nicely when the Yanks were ravaged by injuries and COVID cases, batting .270 with an .849 OPS across 48 plate appearances.

The Yanks will carry 12 pitchers on Tuesday with no surprises. Luis Severino and Domingo German are both on the roster and will be available out of the bullpen, as will Nestor Cortes.
