Yankees say Gleyber Torres' groin tightness not serious after leaving game in ninth inning

Gleyber Torres continued his torrid start to the season with a base hit in the ninth inning of Tuesday’s blowout win against the Guardians, but was noticeably timid when running to first base.

The second baseman was removed from the game, with manager Aaron Boone telling reporters after the game that Torres’ groin was tightening up, and worsened after he tried to advance from first to second on an eventual double play grounder off the bat of teammate Willie Calhoun.

Boone added that Torres would likely get the day off in Thursday’s series finale in Cleveland, and that he doesn’t anticipate the injury being very serious. Torres wasn’t scheduled to undergo any testing and is likely day to day.

Regardless of how many games Torres misses, it will be a big loss for the Yankee lineup. In 35 at-bats to start the season, the two-time All-Star has looked back to his old ways of 2018 and 2019, batting .371 with two home runs, five stolen bases, and a 1.179 OPS.
