To make room on the 40-man roster, the team placed RHP Stephen Ridings on the 60-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement. The Yankees’ 40-man roster stands at 40, but they will need to make one other move ahead of opening day to accommodate adding Marwin Gonzalez, a non-roster invitee who has made the team.

McKay, 27, was acquired from Tampa Bay on Monday for cash considerations, which the AP reported was literally $1. He did not pitch in 2021 due to hip surgery, but has a 6.08 ERA in 26 2/3 innings over 26 career relief appearances for the Tigers and Mariners.

Ridings, 26, made his MLB debut last year and excelled, allowing just one earned run in five innings of work over five outings. However, he has not pitched at all this spring due to what the team termed “a neck and shoulder issue” at the beginning of camp, with no further updates since.
