After an embarrassing sweep at the hands of the hated Astros, Tiki and Tierney are in agreement: Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman have to go.
“Our instincts rarely betray us,” BT said during Monday’s “All In” segment. “When you watch the same movie over and over again, or the same series, and the writing doesn’t get better and the acting doesn’t get better, but you still watch it, you eventually think, ‘Why am I still watching this?’
“If you want the Yankees to become the Yankees again, and I’m talking to Hal Steinbrenner specifically, you can no longer be tolerant of what is a complete lack of player development…you got punked, smoked, waxed in four games by a team that that owns you. If you don’t do anything about it, you are telling us that you’re OK with that. If I am the owner of the Yankees, both GM and manager are gone.”
Tiki agreed, but said that is only half of what he sees as a four-step offseason approach to returning the Yanks to glory, which also includes re-signing Aaron Judge and getting more urgency from Hal Steinbrenner.
“As much as I like the career and can champion the career of this general manager, it’s time for him to move on to the next phase of his career. Wherever it may be, it should not be with the New York Yankees. Aaron Boone has just not connected with this team. the management decisions, the substitutions, the lineups…nobody ever had an idea of what they were supposed to do.
“Lastly, and this is the most important one, Hal Steinbrenner has to commit to winning a championship…if Hal Steinbrenner doesn’t commit to doing whatever it takes to win a championship, and that’s obviously roster construction and the internal philosophy, that’s gotta come from up top.”
