The New York Yankees have traded first baseman Mike Ford to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations and a player to be named later.
Ford, 28, was designated for assignment last week when the Yankees activated Zack Britton from the 60-day injured list. He had appeared in 22 games for the Yankees this season, hitting .133 with three home runs and five RBI.
Originally an undrafted free agent out of Princeton in 2013, Ford spent his entire career with the Yankees, minus one spring training with the Mariners in 2018 as a Rule 5 Draft pick. He would make his MLB debut in pinstripes in 2019, and over parts of three seasons in the Bronx, Ford slashed .199/.301/.422 with 17 home runs and 41 RBI in 319 plate appearances over 101 games.
The Rays added Ford to their 40-man roster immediately, transferring RHP Tyler Glasnow to the 60-day injured list.
