Luis Castillo showed the Yankees what they were missing with seven dominant innings in Thursday night’s win for the Reds, further firing up trade rumors about the hard-throwing righty potentially landing in the Bronx before the trade deadline later this month.
According to Jon Heyman, the Yanks are considered to be one of the likeliest landing spots for the 2022 All-Star.
Per Heyman, the Yankees and Dodgers are considered to be “best positioned” to make a trade for Castillo, who holds an impressive 2.77 ERA and hasn’t missed a beat since coming back from injury. Heyman notes that the asking price will be high for Castillo given the lack of other big-name options, but that New York and Los Angeles have “the best systems” among interested teams to put together a compelling package.
Heyman also notes that the Yankees have made it clear that top shortstop prospects Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza will not be tradeable, meaning the Yanks would likely have to give up a number of other prospects if they are declining to part with their top minor leaguers.
