Yankees Twitter makes 'Arson Judge' joke after team makes Aaron Judge signing official

The Yankees made their signing of Aaron Judge official on Tuesday, and by doing so, gave a playful nod to a hectic day earlier this month when many believed Judge wasn’t coming back to the Bronx.

The night before Judge was reported to be returning to the Yanks on a nine-year deal, MLB insider Jon Heyman sent out a quick tweet that read, “Arson Judge appears headed to Giants.” The tweet not only sent a wildfire of speculation and emotion across social media, apparently even stirring Giants players to believe they might be getting the reigning MVP, but the typo only added to the moment, with many joking that “Arson Judge” was burning MLB Twitter down with a shocking revelation that the lifelong Yankee would be in New York no longer.

Only, the tweet was deleted, and corrected, by Heyman, who said he jumped the gun, and the next morning, Judge was reportedly back with the Yanks.

“Arson Judge” was turned into a t-shirt, became a meme, and is now being used by Yankees Twitter, which tweeted out a GIF on Tuesday after making the signing official, depicting Judge with flames behind him with the caption, “We’re fired up,” and a winking emoji face.

The Yankees can joke about the incident since it no longer represents a moment where their franchise superstar got away.
