The Yankees didn’t bring home No. 28, but they could bring home two pieces of golden hardware very soon.

Clint Frazier (right field) and Gio Urshela (third base) were named finalists for Rawlings American League Gold Glove Awards on Thursday, with the winners to be announced Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

Frazier, who is against Texas’ Joey Gallo and Baltimore’s Anthony Santander, and Urshela, whose competition is another Texas’ Isiah Kiner-Falefa and White Sox phenom Yoan Moncada, are both vying to be the first Yankee to win a Gold Glove since Brett Gardner in 2016.

DJ LeMahieu, who was a finalist at second base in 2019, was not a finalist this year. Also, no New York Mets were named finalists for the NL Awards.

Normally, Gold Glove Award results are a combo of SABR’s Defensive Index as well as manager and coaching staff voting based on certain qualifications metrics, but this is Rawlings’ criteria for 2020:

Due to the compressed 2020 season, the Award qualifications have been amended to rely solely on the SABR Defensive Index™ (SDI). To be considered, pitchers must have pitched at least 50 innings, catchers must have played in at least 29 games and infielders/outfielders must have completed at least 265 defensive innings. Each player qualifies at the position he has played at most (SDI is only for play at qualified position).

Per advanced defensive metrics, Frazier’s 3.8 UZR in the outfield was second only to Gallo’s 6.1, while Urshela’s 5.4 UZR was best in the AL among third basemen.
