The Yankees are once again the most valuable MLB franchise, according to Sportico, which values the team at $7.01 billion.
Last year, Sportico valued the Yanks at $6.75 billion, now nearly a full $2 billion ahead of the Red Sox, who are second on this year’s list.
Putting the Yankees’ value into more perspective, that $7.01 billion makes them the most valuable sports franchise in the world, according to Sportico’s valuation, which includes a 2021 revenue of $531 million (well on its way to recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, as revenue was at $702 million in 2019), and over $1 billion in real estate and related businesses. One of those related businesses is Legends, a sports operations business that the Yankees own 23 percent.
In addition, the Yankees now own 26 percent of the YES Network, which Sportico says will generate more than $300 million this year. The Yanks have the second biggest cable rights deal in Major League Baseball, behind only the Dodgers.
The Yanks just edged out the Cowboys as the most valuable U.S. sports franchise, while the Knicks were ranked third at $6.12 billion.
Per Spotrac, the Yankees hold the third-highest payroll in baseball this season at just under $230 million, behind the Dodgers and Mets.
