Now that Aaron Judge is reportedly back with the Yankees, one of the next questions revolves around his potential captaincy.

Many have speculated that Judge, as long as he signed back with New York, was the perfect candidate to become the first Yankees captain since Derek Jeter, given his star status, his leadership, makeup, all of the above. Some wondered if carrying that illustrious label and becoming a Yankee legend would help keep Judge in New York, and he eventually did elect to stay, thanks in large part to a $360 million offer.

But now that Judge is staying put, multiple reports indicate that he will be named captain.

Both Jack Curry of the YES Network and MLB insider Jon Heyman report that the captain label is in Judge’s future, with Heyman noting that Judge is “very likely” to be given the title.

Judge would be the 16th Yankees captain in franchise history, and just the third since 1990, a year before Don Mattingly was named captain.
