Aaron Judge has long maintained on his march to history that he isn’t focused on the numbers or his home run totals, but the Yankee slugger certainly seemed to have a realization on Tuesday night after finishing his trip around the bases for his 60th home run.
But was it a realization, or just Judge being Judge?
After taking a curtain call for joining Babe Ruth and just four other players who have hit 60 home runs in a season, Judge went back into the dugout, and there was a debate whether the Yankee slugger was taking in the moment, or kicking himself that he didn’t go deep earlier in the game, when he struck out with the bases loaded.
Judge was asked about it after the game, and said his thoughts while rounding the bases for No. 60 was that he wish he had hit the home run earlier in the game. Based on his comments and Judge shaking his head while looking out to the scoreboard, it certainly seems like the first thought to cross Judge’s mind after being acknowledged for making baseball history was frustration that it wasn’t in a bigger position to help the Yanks win.
No matter, as a Giancarlo Stanton walk-off grand slam meant the Yanks won anyway.
