How close were the Pirates to closing out the Yankees on Tuesday night?
Well, entering the ninth inning with a cozy four-run lead would seemingly mean a win was imminent, even with the top of the Yankee order and Aaron Judge due up in the bottom of the ninth. The win probability chart illustrated that, with Pittsburgh at just under a 100 percent chance of taking the series opener.

Then, the graph does a drastic nosedive towards the Yankees favor, as New York staged an epic rally capped off by a walk-off grand slam by Giancarlo Stanton. The Pirates never recorded an out in the inning, as Judge led off the frame with his 60th home run of the season, then loaded the bases on an Anthony Rizzo double, a Gleyber Torres walk, and an Anthony Rizzo single before Stanton broke out of his slump in epic fashion, and gave baseball fans a wild ride on the win probability chart.
