Yankees getting help from everywhere during 11-game winning streak: 'It's a different guy every night'

The Yankees continue to roll, erupting in the seventh inning on Tuesday to cruise to a 9-1 win over the Blue Jays, with more widespread contributions leading to the continued surge.

On Tuesday, Jordan Montgomery stymied the feared Toronto lineup, Marwin Gonzalez capitalized on a rare opportunity by ripping a pair of doubles, and the bullpen once again teamed up for a shutout performance.

For Aaron Boone and the Yanks, the widespread breakthroughs have been the most satisfying aspect of the team’s 11-game winning streak.

“Different ways, and everyone being a part of it,” Boone said. “I think if you look back over the games, there’s been so many contributions from every guy in that room, and in different ways.”

On Monday night, Gleyber Torres drove in all three Yankee runs. On Sunday, Aaron Judge blasted two home runs, and on Saturday, Gerrit Cole breezed through six shutout innings.

“Whether it’s the defense, the baserunning, the long ball, the starters and relievers,” Boone said. “It’s been truly a lot of different ways we’ve been able to win games. It’s something we’ve really focused on, and to their credit, they’re going out there and delivering.”

After a lackluster start to the season where many thought a repeat of 2021 was on the way, the Yankees have now collectively come alive. Seven regular contributors are hitting above league average in respect to OPS+, while Judge and Anthony Rizzo continue to sizzle. Isiah Kiner-Falefa continues to be a steady bat at the bottom of the lineup after a slow start, and DJ LeMahieu, batting .296, looks to be back to his 2019-20 self.

In other words, the offense’s collective awakening to complement league-best pitching numbers has been the perfect recipe for an 11-game hitting streak.

“It’s a different guy every night,” Judge said. “Last time we had Gleyber Torres score all our runs, tonight a lot of guys contributed and the pitching staff picking us up…that’s what it’s gonna take when you play 162 against some of the best teams in the game. Everyone’s gotta contribute.”
