Every day that Blake Snell remains unsigned, a contingent of Yankee fans gain hope that the reigning National League Cy Young winner could relent on his asking price and open the door for the Bombers to pounce.
C-Mac says those fans need to come back to reality.
“I don’t buy for a second that Snell is coming here,” C-Mac said. “Snell is not gonna be a Yankee. They are not paying Snell the amount of money it’s gonna cost to bring him here year one. They are not paying $70-80 million to being Snell here. It’s never gonna happen.”
C-Mac says the Yankees aren’t going to pay that much in luxury tax penalties, and “put money in other teams’ pockets,” to bring Snell into the fold, even if the lefty becomes willing to take a short-term deal. So, those fans holding out hope need to give up on the dream.
“With the luxury tax, they pay 110 percent on every dollar they spend this year,” C-Mac said. “So even on a short-term deal, how does that work?”
