Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is not expected to play in Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after suffering a right shoulder injury in this week's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

McCaffrey had just returned to the Panthers after missing the past six weeks with a high ankle sprain and he is now considered "week-to-week" with what head coach Matt Rhule says is an AC joint issue with his shoulder.

If McCaffrey is placed on the injured reserve again, his season will be over as a player can not return from the IR twice. He is reported to be getting a second opinion.

McCaffrey looked to have injured his shoulder late in the fourth quarter at Kansas City and was on the sideline for a majority of the team's final offensive drive being looked at by trainers.

McCaffrey had never missed a game in his three year career and signed a four-year, $64 million deal this offseason after becoming the third player ever to rush and receive for 1,000 yards last season.

McCaffrey will now have missed seven of the first nine games this year.
