St. Johns Fires Coach That Said ‘Lincoln Made a Mistake’

St. John's University will be in the market for a new assistant fencing coach after firing Boris Vaksman, who previously held that position, Thursday.

Vaksman was terminated after going on a racist tirade in a discussion about African-Americans, one that was secretly recorded during a Zoom call.

"Because the most trouble is coming from where? From black people. Because they don't want to work, they steal, they kill, they do drugs, everything comes from them...the majority. I think uh...what's his name...Lincoln made a mistake."

These comments, according to Bradford William Davis of The New York Post, were made in a Zoom call "during a youth coaching session." Davis says that these comments were made to Fencers Club, which bills itself as "a uniquely wonderful place where people of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs can fence, learn, share resources, and make life-long friends."

Mike Cragg, the Athletic Director at St. John's, issued the following statement on the firing:

Though the video was initially leaked by an anonymous Instagram user, it has been deleted. However, that didn't happen before someone posted the video to YouTube, which you can above. Viewer discretion is advised.
