Some stunning news broke in the NFL on Saturday night when Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck announced his retirement at the age of 29.

— Indianapolis Colts (@Colts) August 25, 2019Luck has been out of action for much of the spring and summer with a high ankle issue/strained calf, which has been the latest string of injuries he has sustained in his career. The six-year veteran had also missed 26 games since 2015 because of shoulder, kidney and rib injuries, including the entire 2017 season.
It was, at this time, Luck questioned whether he would be able to continue his career.
"I've been stuck in this process," said an emotional Luck late Saturday night in a press conference. "I haven't been able to live the life I want to live. It's taken the joy out of this game... the only way forward for me is to remove myself from football.
"This is not an easy decision. It's the hardest decision of my life. But it is the right decision for me.''
Luck was the first overall pick of the Colts in the 2012 NFL Draft, and was considered the best quarterback prospect since John Elway by ESPN Draft analyst Mel Kiper. Luck walks away from the game with 171 career touchdowns, 23,671 career passing yards and a career 89.5% quarterback rating. He also led the Colts to the AFC Championship in 2014.
Jacoby Brisset will now replace Luck under center for the Colts moving forward.
