Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said on Tuesday that he didn’t plan on any changes to his coaching staff for the 2020 season. On Wednesday, a change happened.

Defensive line coach Bill Teerlinck, who was hired as the team’s assistant defensive line coach in 2017 and then replaced Mike Waufle when he retired in 2018, is headed to Virginia Tech to become the Hokies' new defensive line coach.

Teerlinck oversaw a Bills defensive line that saw four different players record at least five sacks, including Jordan Phillips’ 9.5, which was second to only Aaron Donald amongst all NFL defensive tackles. Shaq Lawson also had a career year in 2019, recording 6.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, and 18 quarterback hurries.

McDermott will now begin searching for a replacement for Teerlinck. One in-house candidate could be Aaron Whitecotton, who served as the team’s assistant defensive line coach under Teerlinck for the past two years.
