Charges against Ed Oliver from May arrest dropped

Back on May 16, Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver was arrested and charged with a DWI and unlawfully carrying a weapon in his hometown of Houston, Texas. On Wednesday, charges against Oliver were dismissed by the district attorney in Montgomery County because of a lack of evidence.

Gary Patterson, Oliver's attorney, told Mark Berman of FOX 26 in Houston that he had nothing in his system when arrested.

"The blood results came back, and they were totally negative," Patterson said. "He had no drugs at all in his system. So everybody knows it's not the attorney that's getting him off."

Oliver also blew a .000 on the breathalyzer test.

He took to Twitter after the news came out:

Now y'all go back and read this article knowing that all my blood work came back clean!!!but I had a beer can between my legs get the f*** out of here how does a 5'8 officer se inside a window above his head anyway -- how do 5 cop cars show up before I take a sobriety test huh-- https://t.co/ITKSdaUz8I

With nothing to stand on, there shouldn't be any league discipline towards Oliver this season. He'll enter his second season as the starting defensive tackle in the Bills' defensive line.

The Bills released their own statement on Wednesday regarding the news surrounding Oliver:

Last season, Oliver led Bills defensive tackles in snaps, narrowly edging out Jordan Phillips, who is now a member of the Arizona Cardinals. Sean McDermott's defenses typically see a rotation on the interior of the defensive line, but Oliver should lead the position in snaps once again in 2020.

Oliver led all rookie defensive tackles in the NFL in sacks last season with five, beating out New York Jets 2019 third overall pick Quinnen Williams, who had 2.5 sacks in his rookie campaign.
