Brendan Guhle's All-Star weekend wrapped up on Monday with a win at the AHL All-Star Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The North Division captured its second consecutive All-Star Classic title with a 1-0 shootout win over the Atlantic Division at the MassMutual Center. Toronto Marlies forward Trevor Moore scored the game-winning goal in the fourth round, beating Springfield Thunderbirds goalie Samuel Montembeault through the five-hole.
The North got to the championship game after earning four points in round robin play, beating the Central and the Atlantic Divisions. The only loss came in the team's first game against the Pacific Division.
Guhle finished the evening without a point on the scoresheet, while registering six shots on goal and a minus-2 rating.
It was Belleville Senators forward Drake Batherson who took home the honor as the All-Star Classic MVP. The 20-year-old rookie scored five goals on seven shots on goal for the North in its four games played. He also added a goal in the second round of the shootout against the Atlantic in the championship game.
On Sunday, Guhle also competed in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition, competing in the CCM Fastest Skater competition and the CCM Hardest Shot competition.
The 21-year-old finished as the third-fastest skater in the Fastest Skater competition, finishing with a time of 13.648-seconds. That was good enough to place him as the sixth all-time fastest mark in the history of the AHL All-Star Skills Competition. It was Springfield's Anthony Greco who finished with the fastest time, and broke an AHL record with a time of 13.251-seconds.
In the Hardest Shot competition, Guhle registered a shot of 99.4 miles per hour, which was tied for the third hardest shot in the competition. The hardest shot went to Greg Carey from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, who had the only shot to break 100 mph at 100.4 mph.
The Rochester Americans will have the next couple of days off for the All-Star Break before returning to the ice for practice on Thursday. The Amerks are on the road to take on the Binghamton Devils on Friday night at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 95.7 FM or 950 AM - ESPN Rochester.
