After dropping the first set in the women's final at the 2020 Australian Open, 14th-ranked American Sofia Kenin fought her way back against Spain's Garbine Muguruza to win the final two sets and win her first tennis Grand Slam title in Melbourne, Australia.

Muguruza ended up taking the first set 6-4 after earning a break point with the set tied at four games apiece. The 26-year-old then took the final game of the set on serve as she looked to claim her third career tennis major.
However, Kenin stormed back in the second set, taking it 6-2 after she earned an important break point to make it a 3-1 score in the set.
In the final set, it was tied at two games apiece when Kenin started to tire out Muguruza with a back-and-forth volley that sent Muguruza scrambling to try and force a chance for break point. Kenin went on to take the game to go up 3-2, and then Muguruza on her next serve ended up double faulting on Kenin's break point to give her the 4-2 advantage.
After winning the next game to go up 5-2, Kenin forced another break point to win the championship, and Muguruza ended up double faulting again to give Kenin the win.
The 21-year-old Kenin becomes the first American since Serena Williams (2017) to win the event, and becomes the first American that was not Serena Williams to win the Australian Open since Jennifer Capriati went back-to-back in 2001 and 2002.
The men's final of the 2020 Australian Open will take place on Sunday at 3:30 a.m. EST in Melbourne between second-ranked Novak Djokovic and fifth-ranked Dominic Thiem.
