For the second time in three years, the Buffalo Bills made the playoffs under the leadership of Sean McDermott as head coach.
After a 10-6 season in 2019, that earned the Bills the fifth-seed in the AFC playoffs, McDermott is a finalist for the NFL's Coach of the Year.
League source confirms Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott is a finalist for the NFL's Coach of the Year award. The last Bills coaches to win Coach of the Year were Marv Levy (Sporting News, 1988) and Chuck Knox (AP, 1980).Could just be a coincidence... https://t.co/196W9dUPRu
— Marcel Louis-Jacques (@Marcel_LJ) January 29, 2020Although no other finalists have been reported yet, McDermott will likely be up for the award against the likes of Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.
The last Bills head coach to win Coach of the Year was Marv Levy in 1988. That year, the Bills finished 12-4 and won the AFC East division. That was the first time in seven years the Bills made the postseason.
Chuck Knox also won the award in 1980, taking the Bills to an 11-5 record and a division title.
