The 2019 season didn't go so well for Buffalo Bills tight end Tyler Kroft.

After sustaining an injury before the season began, Kroft had just six catches for 71 yards and a touchdown in 11 games played. Some thought his roster spot could be in jeopardy, especially when the Bills were poking around veteran tight end Greg Olsen.

However, the likelihood that Kroft is on the team in 2020 just went up after NFL Network's Tom Pelissero's report of a contract restructure with the team.

The #Bills restructured TE Tyler Kroft’s contract, per source. He’s now due $4 million in 2020, of which $3.4M is fully guaranteed, and the last year of his contract was deleted. After two years of unfortunate injuries, a chance to show what he can do and hit the market in 2021.

Kroft's cap hit was scheduled to cost the Bills $6.41 million on the salary cap. They would only have been charged $1.6 million in dead cap had they released Kroft. Instead of saving almost five million releasing him, the Bills still save $3 million and he stays on the team.

This also gets rid of 2021 on Kroft's contract. He was scheduled to count as $6.85 million against the Bills cap next year, with an $800,000 dead cap figure. Now Kroft has the chance to cash in next offseason should he perform in 2020.
