The Buffalo Sabres will end up starting the season on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, October 3 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. It will be the first time since the 2013-14 season that the Sabres have opened the regular season on the road. It will also be the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Sabres do not open the season against a divisional opponent.

Two nights later on Saturday, October 5, the Sabres will open their home portion of the schedule against the New Jersey Devils at KeyBank Center.

The Sabres have yet to win a season-opening game since the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season when Buffalo beat the Philadelphia Flyers by a 5-2 score on January 20, 2013 on home ice.

The remainder of the NHL regular season schedule will be released on Tuesday.
