A pair of Roope Hintz second period goals were the difference in the Dallas Stars' 2-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night at KeyBank Center.

Marco Scandella was called for the first penalty of the game when he shot the puck over the glass from his own defensive zone. The delay of game minor came less than five minutes into the opening period. Moments after the blue and gold killed off the penalty, Zach Bogosian was whistled for the same offense.

Buffalo failed to score on either of their power play attempts as well. Joel L'Esperance and Alexander Radulov were called for back-to-back minor penalties in the first period.

Linus Ullmark stopped all 10 Dallas shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes, while Ben Bishop had to stop 13 Sabres shots to keep the game scoreless through a period.

Hintz broke the scoreless tie less than eight minutes into the second period with his sixth goal of the season. The winger was able to beat Ullmark to the top corner while the goaltender was prone to make a save in his crease. Jason Dickinson and Blake Comeau assisted on the game's first goal.

Hintz would score again later in the middle frame, this time while on the power play to extend Dallas' lead to 2-0. His goal came while Vladimir Sobotka was in the penalty box for interference. Radulov set the screen at the top of the crease so that Ullmark could not see the low rising shot on goal. John Klingberg and Tyler Seguin assisted on the power play score.

Neither team was able to score over the final 20 minutes of play. The Sabres recorded 11 shots on goal in the third period, while Dallas was credited with seven. The lone penalty of the period was called on Andrew Cogliano. The Stars were able to kill off the minor without allowing a goal.
