The Buffalo Sabres have one of their first round picks in the 2019 NHL Draft under contract.
In his two seasons in juniors, Cozens has registered 138 points ((57+81) in 128 games.
The Whitehores, Yukon native also had the chance to represent Canada at the IIHF Under-18 World Championship this past April in Sweden, where he put up an impressive outing with four goals and five assists in seven games. However, the Canadians ended up falling short in the bronze medal game to the United States.
Cozens is expected to miss up to 2-3 months of action after undergoing a surgical procedure on his left thumb earlier this offseason on July 3. He injured the thumb during the 3-on-3 portion of development camp when he took a check in the open ice from defenseman Brandon Hickey and landed awkwardly on his left hand.
Buffalo's first round pick will compete for a possible roster spot with the Sabres at training camp and into the preseason, but he is eligible to return to Lethbridge for the upcoming season. Cozens will also be eligible to represent Canada at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship this December in the Czech Republic.
