Fans have been calling for a return to royal blue for quite some time after the Sabres went to a navy blue and gold color scheme before the 2006-07 season. Before that, the Sabres had worn black and red jerseys when the team made the move to, then, Marine Midland Arena before the 1996-97 season.
The new royal blue jerseys are very similar to the navy blue jerseys that the team has primarily worn since the 2010-11 season. Aside from the change in color, the crest on the front of the jersey is bigger and has adopted the detailing of the 50th anniversary jerseys the team wore this past season. In addition, the swords on the logo are also detailed with beveling to give a sharper look.
One other detail that is different with the royal blue uniforms is that the team has removed the numbers from the front of the jersey that were located just above the primary logo.
A nice addition has also been made to the inside collar of the jerseys with the single star and "electric flashes" to represent the City of Buffalo's official crest.
With the helmet, the Sabres will use the logo that was used as the team's shoulder patch for the 2018 Bridgestone Winter Classic jerseys when the team faced the New York Rangers at Citi Field.
