Super Bowl Sunday is finally here.
The 53rd installment of the Super Bowl will take place this Sunday from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, where the Los Angeles Rams will match up the New England Patriots.
The game is a rematch, of sorts, from Super Bowl XXXVI where Tom Brady and the Patriots captured their first Lombardi Trophy in franchise history with a 20-17 victory over the, then, St. Louis Rams.
Since then, the Rams now call Los Angeles their home and are led by the league’s youngest head coach in Sean McVay. Under McVay’s leadership, the Rams finished the regular season with a top-three offense that includes quarterback Jared Goff, running back Todd Gurley, wide receiver Brandin Cooks and former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Robert Woods.
Cooks came to Los Angeles in a trade with New England last season and has fit into their system quite well. Despite Cooks’ second straight Super Bowl appearance (against the team he went to the big dance with last season), the storyline dominating the headlines is the team’s use of star Gurley. Despite being one of the league’s best running backs this season with 22.5 touches per-game, Gurley was out-touched 17-5 by veteran C.J. Anderson in the Rams' 26-23 victory in the NFC Championship game over the New Orleans Saints. McVay stated game-flow was the reason for the usage, which will certainly be something to look for in Sunday’s game.
Super Bowl LIII starts 6:30 p.m. on Sunday with Jim Nantz and Tony Romo on the call on CBS. Coverage of the game can also be heard on WGR.
