On Tuesday, Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane made an appearance on The Zach Gelb Show on CBS Sports Radio and was asked directly by the host if the Bills had any plans on brining former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton to Buffalo. Here was Beane's response:
"You know, you never say never. I know Cam's mindset and Cam, I can guarantee you, and I have not spoken to him, I can guarantee you Cam's got a chip on his shoulder. I know his DNA very well and he thinks he's being doubted right now, so I think he would have to really change his frame of mind, I would assume. Again, this is all without talking to him, Zach, but I think he deserves a chance to go start and that's not really the opportunity that we would have, so again you never say never if things change in his landscape, but I hope that he'll get a chance to if not start, compete to start."
Beane was the Director of Football Operations for the Panthers when they drafted Newton first overall in 2011. He became the team's Assistant GM in 2015, the same season Carolina went to the Super Bowl and Newton named the league's Most Valuable Player.
Beane told Gelb "without Cam maybe I'm not a GM in Buffalo,"adding that he's rooting for Newton to get an opportunity to compete for a starting job and is rooting for him, "unless he's playing the Bills."

#Bills GM & former #Panthers Assistant GM Brandon Beane would never say never on bringing @CameronNewton to Buffalo but thinks Cam deserves a chance to start again. Beane doesn't believe that is an option in Buffalo because of @JoshAllenQBhttps://t.co/20C2HKkmTR @CBSSportsRadio pic.twitter.com/9UFNK8Ig3R
