You would think, after 19 regular and postseason games, A.J. Brown would no longer qualify as the “new guy” in Philadelphia, though the label still fits, at least in one regard. The Pro Bowl wideout, who wasn’t asked to do much in Sunday’s NFC Championship rout of San Francisco (four catches for 28 yards on eight targets), made a rather startling admission on Twitter, revealing that, despite being on the team for nine months, he still doesn’t know the lyrics to “Fly, Eagles Fly.”
The team’s iconic fight song can be heard over the PA system—and by fans singing along—after every Eagles touchdown at Lincoln Financial Field. Over the course of 11 home games, that’s happened 39 times this season with Brown himself responsible for eight of those touchdowns. It’s surprising Brown hasn’t committed the song to memory yet, though what’s worse, bordering on malpractice, is that the Eagles apparently never bothered to teach him.
Learning “Fly Eagles, Fly” should be required of all Philly newcomers, but for the uninitiated, here are the lyrics.
Brown’s focus has understandably been on other things, though he doesn’t play again for two weeks, leaving the 25-year-old no excuse not to learn it between now and when the Eagles travel to Arizona for Super Bowl LVII. The Eagles enter that matchup as slight favorites, holding a two-point edge over Kansas City in a game pitting Chiefs coach Andy Reid against his former team. Travis and Jason Kelce will also be the first brothers to oppose each other in the Super Bowl, with both siblings seeking their second Lombardi Trophy.
