Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - It was a bit of a stunning start to the season for the Buffalo Bills, who overcame a 15-point deficit in the waning moments of the season opener to earn a 41-40 win over the Baltimore Ravens at Highmark Stadium.
A huge reason why the Bills are off to an 1-0 start to the year, rather than on the losing end of a comeback just fallen short, is the play of the reigning NFL MVP, Josh Allen. Allen led the Bills by going 33-of-46 in the air for 394 yards and two touchdowns, while also finding the end zone twice on the ground and establishing a new franchise record in the process for the most rushing touchdowns in team history.
While Allen was a catalyst for the Bills' comeback in the season opener, he commends his teammates for showing no quit in their game, despite facing a 40-25 deficit early in the fourth quarter.
"No one on the sideline blinked down 15 points with five, six minutes left," said Allen on Sunday following Buffalo's come-from-behind win. "You've gotta play this game for 60 minutes, and that’s a really good outfit we just played. … We stuck in there, and I’m just really proud of our guys."
Despite facing such a deficit and struggles on both sides of the football in the early going, Allen pointed back to the mindset the team that allowed the group to stay mentally strong and battle back.
"Just stay with it. Trust what Joe [Brady] is calling and that’s all we did," Allen said. "Just try to take it one game at a time, no matter how far down we are, we don’t look at the scoreboard. We just try to go out and execute our play."
