Allen, Edmunds fifth-year option amounts set

The Bills have until May 3 to exercise the options for the 2022 season

The National Football League has announced the amounts it will cost teams to pick up the fifth-year options for the 2022 season for players selected in the first round of the 2018 draft. For the Buffalo Bills, that includes quarterback Josh Allen, the seventh overall pick in that draft, and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, the 16th overall pick.

For Allen, the fifth-year option will cost the Bills $23.016 million. For Edmunds, it will cost $14.791 million.

The amounts are based on the player’s position, where he was selected, and the number of Pro Bowls he’s been selected to on the original ballot.

Both Allen and Edmunds have been selected for one Pro Bowl each on the original ballot. Edmunds was selected a second time as an injury replacement, but that is not factored into the fifth-year option amount, which was negotiated by the NFL and NFL Players’ Association as part of the collective bargaining agreement signed in 2020.

The team has until May 3 to exercise these options.
