Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Josh Allen and company were down, but not out in, what ended up being, a shootout come-from-behind victory over Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, 39-34, at Highmark Stadium.
The Bills quarterback was a catalyst for the Bills in the win, finishing his afternoon in Orchard Park with four total touchdown (three passing and one rushing) and 329 yards of total offense.
After trailing for most of Sunday's game, Allen knew it was going to take all 53 guys on the roster to pull off the comeback victory.
"It comes down to guys executing and making plays," said Allen following the win. "Sometimes you have to play bigger for other people, and you saw that on those back-to-back plays with [Christian] Benford. All we had to do was score one more point than them. It didn't matter how we did, and it didn't matter how good or bad it looked. We've just got to continue to find ways to win football games."
It was Allen who started Buffalo's comeback efforts with a 40-yard scamper to cut into a Cincinnati lead with a little more than seven-and-a-half minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
On the very next Bengals drive, Burrow tossed a costly interception to Benford, who then returned it 63 yards for a go-ahead touchdown.
Then after Burrow tossed another interception on the very next play from scrimmage for the Bengals, Allen put the Bills in a comfortable position late in the game with a touchdown to Jackson Hawes.
Then when facing a 3rd-and-15 and the Bengals needing a defensive stop to give them one last chance at a road victory, Allen put the game in his hands by scampering for 17 yards and a game-sealing first down.
Playing for each other was the key topic of conversation for the team in order to regain focus after the first half, while also maintaining pace in the AFC playoff picture.
"Doesn't matter if our defense is playing outstanding, we're not playing great, and vice versa," Allen acknowledged. "We have supreme trust in each other that we're going to figure it out. We're going to play for each other, and that's all we try to do. Not ride the wave, but stay as calm as possible and find a way to figure it out."
