Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - Sunday was a huge win for the Buffalo Bills in an AFC East showdown with the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
Thanks to a close-to-perfect performance from Josh Allen and a stellar job by the Buffalo defense to shut down a high-flying Dolphins offense, the Bills rolled in a 48-20 win to improve to 3-1 on the season and control first place in the division.
Allen's day consisted of him going 21-of-25 for 320 yards and four touchdowns through the air, while adding 17 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He also finished the game with a perfect passer rating of 158.3.
One of the biggest aspects of this game for the Bills was preparation. Allen noted that offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and the offensive staff was heavily focused on being efficient in the run game.
"We're doing a good job of running the football, and making sure the runs that we put in are stuff that our offensive linemen and running backs are familiar with and comfortable with," said Allen following Sunday's win. "Just being efficient when we call those runs, and then the play action passes off of them. That's Dorsey, that's [Aaron] Kromer, that's [Joe] Brady, that's everybody in that offensive staff room talking and communicating well, and putting something out there for us. Then it's our guys going out there and executing."
Allen says the game plan developed helped the rest of the offense have the confidence and ability to play their game. He also spoke on ways the team can get even better, even though the team had themselves a great day.
"Dorsey had a heck of a game plan, and our guys went out there and did it," Allen said. "Stefon Diggs taking a stop route essentially, and making two guys miss, and taking it [55 yards], that's huge for us. We haven't had a whole bunch of that in the first couple weeks. Getting some R.A.C. (Run-after-catch) going, getting some Dalton [Kincaid] and Gabe [Davis] going. I still think we have more, we're gonna have to from learn a lot from this tape, and find ways to get better."
Up next for the Bills will be a matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, England, against a team that will remain in Europe after pulling out a win over the Atlanta Falcons earlier in the day. Allen knows next week will be a tough defensive matchup.
"Our thought process every time we touch the ball is to score. Whether that'd be six or three, no turnovers today, which is great," he said. "I still think there's some things we can clean up. As good as it looked out there, on film, it's never as bad, but it's never as good as you think it's gonna look. A lot to learn from, and we'll get in there tomorrow and focus on cleaning some things up, and turn our focus to a really good Jacksonville team."
