Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - With the Buffalo Bills finding themselves with a hole in their secondary after losing Ja'Marcus Ingram on waivers and Darius Slay not reporting to the team, they've plugged the gap by claiming safety Darnell Savage off waivers.
Savage joins the Bills after being waived by the Washington Commanders on Thursday.
The 28-year-old has spent part of this season with the Commanders and the Jacksonville Jaguars, combining to appear in 10 games and making 16 total tackles, registering two passes defended and forcing a fumble.
Savage was a former first-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in the 2019 NFL Draft. In his seven seasons in the NFL, Savage has played in 72 games, started 69 of them and registering 369 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, a sack, 40 passes defended, 10 interceptions and three forced fumbles.
His best season, to date, came back in 2020 when Savage picked up 75 total tackles, three tackles for loss, 12 passes defended and four interceptions.
The Bills now have three designated safeties on the roster - Savage, Jordan Poyer and Cole Bishop - along with designated defensive backs - Jordan Hancock, Cam Lewis and Sam Franklin Jr. - that can also slot in at safety, if needed.
