Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills made a pair of in-house promotions on the defensive side of the ball on Friday.
The team announced the promotion of Al Holcomb from a senior defensive assistant to linebackers coach, while Marcus West goes from an assistant defensive line coach to becoming Buffalo's new defensive line coach.
Holcomb replaces Bobby Babich as the Bills' new linebackers coach after Babich was announced as the new defensive coordinator earlier this week.
Holcomb is going into his second season in Buffalo after being hired last offseason. He helped the Bills defense collect 18 interceptions and a total of 30 takeaways, which ranked third in the NFL.
Prior to joining the Bills, Holcomb served as the interim defensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers in 2022. He was also the Panthers' linebackers coach when they reached Super Bowl 50 under Sean McDermott, when he served as defensive coordinator in Carolina.
As for West, he takes over responsibilities coaching the defensive line group for Eric Washington, who left the organization to take over as defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.
West joined the Bills in 2022 as an assistant defensive line coach. Buffalo finished third in the AFC this past season with 18.3 points allowed, and fourth in the NFL with 54 sacks.
Before joining the Bills, West served as the assistant head coach/defensive coordinator/defensive line coach at UNC Charlotte.
