Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR) - The Buffalo Bills announced on Tuesday they have released veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
Gardner-Johnson was set to return this Monday night from a one-game suspension served last week, after spitting in the direction of Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers just before the team's bye week.
In just six games with the Bills this season, the 28-year-old racked up 26 total tackles, two passes defended and an interception. However, a number of depth defensive backs stepped up in Gardner-Johnson's place against the Baltimore Ravens. This included veteran Damar Hamlin, who started in place of Gardner-Johnson and ended up playing every snap on defense.
The Bills signed Gardner-Johnson as a free agent this offseason to a one-year contract. Buffalo was Gardner-Johnson's fifth stop over a four-year span.
