Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills' 2022 rookie class hit the field for the first time ever as professionals on Friday for the first session of rookie minicamp.
Under bright sunshine in near record heat, eight drafted rookies, nine undrafted free agents, 20 tryout players, and three players who were on the practice squad last year but considered "first-year" players all ran through individual position drills, as well as offensive versus defensive teamwork.
As opposed to organized team activities with veterans present, the rookies were allowed to run plays and do more actual football work. However, no shoulder pads or other padding is allowed, other than players wearing helmets.
A lot of focus from the media on hand was on the team’s top-two picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. First round cornerback Kiiar Elam is long and has very quick feet, while second round running back James Cook showed off his terrific cutting ability and explosiveness.
The rookies will conclude their minicamp on Saturday, but the session will not be open to the media.
